Graduates, population increasing but there are no jobs — OAU Don

LASU will graduate 11,791 at it's 19th Convocation
Nigeria, like many countries of the world, is facing unemployment problems because universities are producing graduates without corresponding job creation.
Professor Ambrose Anozie of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, said this at the while delivering the 271st Inaugural Lecture of the OAU titled: 'Creativity And Innovation: The Applications Of Thermodynamics And Synthesis Techniques In Improving And Creating Process Industries'.
Anozie who was quoted in a Daily Times report said the problem arises because the number of graduates being produced by the nation's many universities is not matched by job opportunities.
"It is a well-known fact today that there is problem of job creation and unemployment in many nations of the world," he said.
"This is because employment opportunities have not increased as the number of graduates from universities and polytechnic increased.
He said the establishment of private industries is the only solution.
"Nigeria is capable of forming private sector project managers to create new industries," Anozie said.
"The formation of private sector project managers to assemble industries in Nigeria will be very attractive to Nigeria and will be a step in the right direction.
"It will provide opportunities to create industries where the teeming graduate students from the universities and polytechnics can be employed."
The don warned that allowing things to continue as they are will cause "severe security problems".
